You may have heard us mention that we use the PERMA model to guide our approach to care and wellbeing. The PERMA model was developed by psychologist Martin Seligman, a framework for wellbeing based on positive psychology.

It consists of five core elements:

  1. P – Positive Emotion

  2. E – Engagement

  3. R – Relationships

  4. M – Meaning

  5. A – Accomplishment

Applying the PERMA model to home care

When applied to caregiving, the PERMA model enhances the wellbeing of both caregivers and care recipients.

  1. Positive Emotion – Finding joy, gratitude, and hope every day. Simple acts of kindness, humour, and appreciation can improve emotional well-being.

  2. Engagement – Helping individuals stay mentally and physically engaged in activities that provide fulfilment. We help foster engagement through meaningful hobbies including music, art, crafts or social interaction.

  3. Relationships – Building strong, supportive connections between caregivers, clients, families, and communities. Close connections improve trust and emotional resilience.

  4. Meaning – Helping caregivers and clients find purpose in their roles. Care work can be deeply meaningful, and clients can feel valued by contributing in small ways to their community or family life.

  5. Accomplishment – Celebrating progress and achievements, no matter how small. This might include trying something new, rehabilitation goals, or daily tasks.

Why is this important to us?

At Thrive, our mission is to ensure people enjoy the best possible later life. By applying the PERMA model to our care & wellbeing plans, we can develop a holistic approach to care, ensuring every aspect of an individuals wellbeing is considered.

✅ Improve mental and emotional well-being for our clients.

✅ Ensure caregivers feel valued and experience job satisfaction.

✅ Enhance quality of life for all.

✅ Create positive environments that focus on wellbeing and dignity.

It all adds up to a Life in Colour

At Thrive Homecare, our motto is Live Life In Colour 🌈 — and the PERMA model helps us make that real. By embedding Positive Emotion, Engagement, Relationships, Meaning and Accomplishment into every aspect of our work, we offer more than care. We offer connection, joy and purpose.

Because no matter someone’s age, we believe in their right to flourish.
