Dementia Care

Living well with dementia at home
What is Dementia?

Dementia is a broad term that describes a range of progressive conditions affecting the brain. It impacts memory, thinking, communication, and daily life in different ways.

There are over 200 types of dementia, with Alzheimer’s disease being the most common. Each type affects specific areas of the brain, leading to changes in a person’s ability to remember, reason, and communicate.

Staying at home can be incredibly beneficial for someone living with dementia, providing stability, familiarity, confidence and independence for as long as possible.

What is our Approach to Dementia Care?

We understand that each person’s experience of dementia is unique. That’s why our support is built around the individual - who they are, what matters to them and how they experience the world.

Living with dementia doesn't mean that life has to stop, just the opposite in fact. At Thrive, we take a proactive approach and look at how we can enhance quality of life now and make a plan for the future.

Our team are trained in effective communication strategies, ensuring that our dementia care is built on trust and consistency. We know how to create a safe and comfortable environment whilst also providing tailored activities such as music therapy and reminiscence, bringing daily moments of joy, meaning and purpose.

"My mother has recently started receiving support from Thrive Home Care, and our experience has been extremely positive. Mum is 95 and living with dementia. She lives alone and has always been fiercely independent, with little awareness of her need for support. From the first meeting, Emma built a natural rapport with Mum, which was incredibly reassuring. Emma currently visits once a week, with plans to increase support over time."

Barry (Son of client)

“From the moment I met my consultant, Agota, I felt very at ease and comfortable. She explained everything clearly and helped me understand how Thrive could support me. My companion helps me with shopping trips and attending medical appointments. I would highly recommend this service to anyone in a similar situation to mine.”
